Thanks to import substitution, Ukraine will be able to satisfy the demand of its own market in LED products by 70% in 5-7 years.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul following a meeting on the development of LED lighting technology in Ukraine, which was held at the Institute of Semiconductor Physics of the National Academy of Sciences.
“In 5-7 years, thanks to import substitution, the production of LED products in Ukraine should increase by more than 100 times and make up 70% of the market demand,” A. Vilkul noted.
He added that thanks to the support of the Cabinet of Ministers, the production of LEDs has doubled over the past two years.
According to Vilkul, the creation of a Ukrainian production of LED clusters (Kharkiv, an enterprise of the ”LED Technologies Ukraine company”) will reduce the cost of the process of creating LED technology. Thanks to this, with European quality (Ukrainian LED technology is certified according to European standards), the cost of Ukrainian products will be 20-30% lower than European ones.
“This is an example of effective developments of Ukrainian scientists. A new cluster of the economy has been created, which means new jobs, wage growth and the introduction of modern energy-saving technologies,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Pilot projects for the installation of LEDs operate in Kyiv, Kharkov, Donetsk, Simferopol, Zhytomyr. LEDs are installed at 5 stations of the Kyiv metro, at 28 condominiums in Kharkov and Kyiv. The payback period for projects is less than three years.
The government is also considering financing in 2013-2014 projects for the installation of LEDs, in particular, on the highways Kyiv-Chernihiv, Kyiv-Kharkov, Kyiv-Lugansk, Kyiv-Chop, Kyiv-Odessa.
